APR alone understates what you’ll actually earn

A 12% APR that compounds daily doesn’t earn you 12% over a year — it earns slightly more, because each day’s reward starts earning its own reward. That real, compounded return is the effective APY, and it’s the number that actually matters for comparing two staking options with different compounding schedules.

How this tool works

Standard compound interest: balance = principal × (1 + r/n)n×t, where r is your APR, n is how many times per year it compounds, and t is the duration in years. Continuous compounding uses the calculus limit of that formula, Pert, as an upper bound.

Frequently asked questions

APR is the nominal, uncompounded annual rate. APY is what you actually earn once returns are reinvested (compounded) at a given frequency — APY is always ≥ APR for a positive rate, and the gap widens the more often it compounds. This tool takes an APR and shows you the resulting APY.

The mathematical limit of compounding infinitely often — used here as an upper bound (Pe^(rt)) on how much daily/hourly auto-compounding could theoretically earn. Real protocols compound at a fixed interval (often daily), which continuous compounding slightly overstates.

No — it assumes the APR you enter stays constant for the whole duration. Most staking and liquidity-mining APRs actually fluctuate with protocol activity, so treat the result as a projection at today's rate, not a guarantee.
